gpt-5.5GPT-5.5 is described by OpenAI as a smarter frontier model for coding, research, data analysis, and professional knowledge work. The official launch messaging emphasizes higher capability, better speed than previous difficult-work models, and strong performance on tasks involving documents and structured analysis. Its description should focus on broad professional intelligence rather than a single niche.

Endpoint Protocols
GPT-5.5 combines efficient reasoning, precise task execution and large-context visual understanding for complex coding and professional work.
Reaches strong results with fewer reasoning tokens than earlier models at comparable effort, benefiting long and multi-step workflows.
Preserves goals and constraints across complex work, translating product intent into concrete, verifiable outcomes.
Processes text and image inputs within a 1,050,000-token context, preserving fine visual detail for document and interface analysis.
GPT-5.5 supports complex software engineering, tool-heavy Agent workflows and grounded assistants working across large information sets.
Navigates codebases, plans coordinated changes, implements features and verifies the result with available development tools.
Selects and coordinates tools across multi-step service tasks, preserving constraints until the requested outcome is delivered.
Retrieves relevant material from large document sets, connects supporting evidence and prepares accurate user-facing answers.

GPT-5.5: capabilities, use cases, limits, and TokenHub guidance.
GPT-5.5 is a OpenAI model for frontier coding, reasoning, and professional workflows.
Best for complex coding, tool-heavy automation and customer-facing workflows, especially when professional output quality is the priority.
Key strength: strong coding, professional reasoning, and reliable tool use.
It uses more compute, so latency and cost can be higher. For throughput, consider GPT-5.4 Mini.

GPT-5.5 delivers this step up in intelligence without compromising on speed. GPT-5.5 matches GPT-5.4 per-token latency in real-world serving, while performing better across nearly every evaluation we measured. It also uses significantly fewer tokens to complete the same Codex https://t.co/5mR46SM7mW

OpenAI saying GPT-5.5 can handle similarly hard tasks faster while using fewer tokens is interesting to me for one reason: that might matter more than a pure benchmark jump. A lot of model launches get framed as "smarter than the last one," but for people actually using these systems every day, I feel like the bigger question is: - does it produce better code with less fixing? - does research feel more reliable? - does long-context use break less often? - does lower token usage actually make heavy usage meaningfully cheaper? If the answer to those is yes, then GPT-5.5 could be a bigger release than it first looks. Not because it proves OpenAI is "winning," but because it moves the market toward models that are good enough *and* economically practical. That feels like a more important threshold than another small benchmark flex. Curious how people here see it: Is GPT-5.5 mainly a headline/positioning win for OpenAI, or do you think efficiency + speed is actually the next major frontier in the model race?
